First of all, no, TFL has not stopped development and yes, development will continue.  A lot of the reason that I had not updated is I had told myself I was not going to until the next alpha was available but a few months have passed and that’s not the case.

In what I can only call another in the long line of setbacks the TFL project has had over the years I’ve developed it, I ended up having the hard drive fail on my laptop, and well, when your hard drive fails and that’s got the stuff you’re working on it, that’s a little problematic.

Marzo quite correctly pointed out that if I had been committing regularly to CVS, this would not be an issue.  Therefore whenever I’m working on TFL and produce anything of any volume bigger than a few KB, I’m going to be committing, going forward.

Other than that I can only apologise to the dear readers and fans who have been following the project for some time.  I know you were all looking forward to the planned alpha release in the new year.  It -will- be coming, but it will be later than I had hoped, and for this I am greatly sorry.  I would like nothing more than to share the mod and the new world with you all, indeed its why the project went public instead of just a little side project, but its going to take me some time to catch up to the things I’ve lost in the hard drive crash.

I haven’t yet found an easy way to crosspost the recent posts etc. back and forth between bbPress and Wordpress, when I do you can expect the left sidebar to be a little more populated.  But, even with that deficiency, I think it is a vast improvement to the fora that they much more closely match the main site.

With the issues that have come up about moderation and related angst about the Exult fora, I took the time tonight to wrangle with the discussion fora for the Feudal Lands.  The bbPress installation was old and needed updated, and I’ve got it going now.

I’m pretty laid back about the fora, as far as that moderation issue goes.  So long as its not spam and you post it in the most appropriate place out of the fora I’ve made, I’m not terribly concerned, just keep the discussion cordial and respectful.

I pretty much was left with the option of gutting the old forums, or taking a lot of time to update the new database to be up to the new code.  Since the gutting option lets me fully integrate the fora into the main site, I took that route.  The advantage with this is that you can have a single unified login for both the blog and the fora.  The disadvantage is I lost the old posts from the old discussion boards.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the lack of updates here.  Due to circumstances beyond my control I have been left with an unreliable internet connection and a less reliable “real life”, so my focus has had to been mostly on said real life.  I feel I’ve dropped the ball on TFL so to speak – not in that I haven’t been developing for it – because I have, but because I haven’t been keeping you guys and the site updated.  As much as I can help it during this busy retail time of year, I intend to update.  Just don’t expect it to be every day or something

Secondly, as I discussed on the forum, I will likely be releasing a fully-playable version of TFL in the first quarter of next year.  This is a fully playable version.  Not all the quests may be in and such, but the world and NPCs and all the little subsystems Ive spent years building and tweaking will be there.  I think it adds all the more to the world of U7 and TFL, and hopefully when you see for yourself you’ll agree.
There was some unplanned downtime for the website, though it wasn’t downtime per se, but rather a DNS resolution issue that made the server unreachable.  It has since been rectified obviously but I want to apoloigise for the inconvinence.  Marzo’s site was also affected, so I apologise to readers that use his site, as well.

Finally, I have updated the WordPress install that powers the site, as well as the associated plugins.  If you see something malfunctioning, drop a comment, or let me know at wizardry@thefeudallands.ca
